The picture above shows the similarity between modern and traditional marriages. Henna is and was used in both modern and traditional weddings. These traditions will never die.

There are many differences between the traditional dates and weddings in India compared to the more modern dates and weddings that India has now. In India, traditionally, the parents decide who their child is going to marry. When the girl marries the guy, the girl's family has to pay a dowry to the guy's family. In the wedding their are many rituals that are preformed before the girl and guy can be pronounced man and wife. Dating with a person that will not be your future wife or husband is not allowed. Now that India is more westernized, dating is allowed even though some families still follow the traditional way of the getting married. Sometimes, someone is allowed to date anyone before they get marry but then they will have to marry the person that their parents choose. Since people are allowed to date and marry whomever they want to marry, there are less traditional weddings now than there was in the past. Weddings are now more modernized were the man wears a suit and the women wears a wedding gown instead of the traditional outfit. Still, there are still some traditional things that happen at the weddings. Sometimes, the couple will wear the traditional outfit and many jewerly and henna that is from the traditional marriages. Sometimes, the traditional rituals are still preformed in the modern weddings.  The differences between modern and traditional dating and marriage also is differentiated from north and south India. Differnet rituals and things are done in the north and the south.Since some people are allowed to date, there are many dating sites were Indians can find other Indians that they might want to date. There are many differences in the traditional and modern Indian dating and weddings but the modern wedding and dating sitll has links to the more tradtional dating and weddings.

This is a wedding in a more modern family, with a splash of tradition. The second pictures portrays a more simple, traditional wedding. Both pictures show the tug of war between modern and traditional families, and also show the modern vs. tradition tug of war within families.
