Introduction

In India, there is a pull between the Modern and Traditional customs. Second generation Indians are often more Americanized than their parents are, who are very traditional, since they were born in India. Many parents still want arranged marriages or the complete approval of their child's boyfriend or girlfriend, and ultimately their spouse. Some parents that are less customary may let their children choose their partner, but will try to set them up with certain individuals that they approve of. Also, another tug between the traditional and modern views on dating and marriage is online singles looking for each other on dating websites. Even though that many older Indians may not be as up on technology as our generation, they still have dating sites specifically for Indians, to find their true love. Examples would be DesiKiss.com, IndianDating.com, or Shaadi.com. The fact that some Indians want someone to spend their life with so much that they look online for it is a real showing of the difference of traditionally getting set up with someone by parents, or finding someone out there in cyberspace. Reasons for choosing this topic are because the difference between Indian dating and American dating is so immense that it is interesting to find out the customs of others.
