Introduction

If there was an award for the country wich dances the most, it would certainly go to India. India has so many different kinds of dances, its almost impossible to list them all. There is one main type ofdance, which has been there since the very beginning and that is Indian classical dance. Indian classical dance has been there since the beginning. These classical dances were divided into three types, Agama Nartaram which was a spiritual dance, Carnatakam which was intellectual and Darbari Attam which was for commoners. In Classical dance, the dancers used mudra, or hand gestures to tell a story. Indian classical dance is not just dancing, but a mixture of singing, dancing and acting. The most common types of Indian classical dance are katthak and baratnatyam. Another important type of Indian dance is bhangra which orignated in Punjab.

Nowadays bhangra has fused with other types of dancing such as reggae and hip hop. "Modern"in movies, clubs, any major conflict between modern and countries the dance studios have a little bit of modern and traditional in Indian movies, there is mostly more modern dances. and other western

      - We chose this topic because it was the only one left except for music, and its kind of hard to find a picture of music and Hania also wondered why they randomly start dancing often in Indian movies and now she knows that dance has been embedded in Indian culture for many centuries.

These two images vividly show the difference between India classical and modern dance. The image on the left is girls doing a classical Indian dance and the image on the right is a very modern dance from a recent Indian movie. As one can see on the left the dance pose, even when its frozen, seems to be emphasizing something, one can tell that there is a story or a lesson within the dance. There is also a striking difference in the clothing that is worn in these dances. The classical dance has strictly traditional Indian clothing, while the one on the right has western influenced clothing. The modern image looks like the people are dancing just for fun and not to tell a story like in classical dance.

Here we have two videos about both classical Indian dance and modern Indian dance. The first one shows a performance of classical dance. The second one of modern dance is a clip taken from a movie. It is clarified that in classical Indian dance, the postures are more simple and regular, while the modern one is much faster and Western-like. It mixes the style of hip-hop as well. What we noticed is when classical dance is presented, there will often be less than three dancers. Sometimes may be more. But in modern Indian dance, it always has a group of people involved in it.

There is one more video about Bhangra dance below, which is an important part of Indian dance.
