These two pictures are showing a more modern India on the left with a more tradtional India on the right, in a tug of war match.

Golf is an up and coming sport in India. In India most golf tournaments are played in the north, golf is not as popular yet in the south. This example shows how the "Tug of War" in India between sports is slowly switching to the other side.
Boxing is another sport that is coming up in the Indian sports world. Boxing is a very new sport to India, and is very well recieved by Indians as well.
Mock Dialogue
Characters: Chandra and Pravin
Chandra: Hey Pravin, whats up?
Pravin: Oh not much what about you?
Chandra: I was just about to go and play some basketball!
Pravin: Basketball? What exactly is basketball?
Chandra: You've never heard of basketball?! Its only the second best sport in the world, behind cricket!
Pravin: Wow, it must be pretty good if its the second best sport in the world!!
Chandra: It is! Want to come and play? I can show you how to play?
Pravin: Of course! It sounds like fun! Lets go! (A few minutes later)
Chandra: The object of the game is to put this ball (points to ball) into the net.
Pravin: Huh. That sounds pretty hard! Look how far up the basket is!
Chandra: Oh its not as hard as it looks. It just takes a little getting used to.
Pravin: Okay then, what are you waiting for, lets play!!!
Chandra: Its really easy, the first step is to hold the basketball like this (holds basketball). Then you have to shoot the ball like this (shoots basketball).
Pravin: Wow. That seems pretty easy to do.
Chandra: Yea it is. Why don't you give it a try?
Pravin: Okay. (shoots basketball)
Chandra: Wow you are really going to need some practice man, not even joking!
Pravin: Yea you're right.
Chandra: How about we go play a good old game if cricket with the village boys?
Pravin: Now thats an offer I can't refuse!!!
